Comments
Comments: Felt a little whacky today, so headed towards Redington. The trail was well packed heading up North Crocker on the AT. I wore snowshoes from the start, but you could probably spike for most of the ascent at this point. Nearing the summit ridge, drifts started to appear and you would definitely want snowshoes. A group of three had traversed south to north probably yesterday, so the trail was easy to follow to the south summit. Blowdowns were minimal to that point. No recent travel to Redington. Sometimes you could see very faint tracks, but almost all were completely covered. I mostly stayed on the trail until the lower section where the trail is very overgrown and difficult to push through. I turned back a little then angled skiers left to avoid the thickest sections of trees. I would recommend that to people attempting this in the winter. While it was still thick, it was much easier to pass through. The climb up Redington is easier to follow and I was able to stay on trail most of the time. The trail to carabou valley is easy to follow with no issues. Snowshoes came off when I hit the snowmobile trail since it was traveled on and packed. Sunny and brisk afternoon. Didn't see anyone else out on this glorious day. Maybe worth noting, there are no tracks heading towards Sugarloaf on the AT.
Thank you Roots!
