Beautiful conditions up there! Tote road and Abol stream are well tracked out and had a number of xc ski tracks. Abol up to Baxter peak is fairly well broken lower down, pretty drifty higher up. You can get by without snowshoes currently but the storms this week might change that. Last 1/2 mile up the steep bit is a lot of bare rock (rip my micro spikes) and drifty snow. Trail gets hard to follow at a few points and there are definitely some good spruce traps. Not enough ice or hard pack snow to consider using crampons currently. Table lands are a speedy microspike cruise on a very solid windswept crust. |
