Comments
Comments: See note on parking. Cold and windy day with fresh snow the entire way. Any traces of previous hiking disappeared with the last snowfall. There was varying amounts of loose dry powder throughout, amounts seemed to average 4 to 6 inches, but at times less which left many rocks either exposed or prone to scraping with snowshoes. The ridge between West and Avery had deeper snow with drifting, a couple drifts being many feet deep. The wind will probably cause them to reform. Some ice on the rock case between Moose Falls and Avery col but easy to manage with traction. The bigger problem was going down this section with all the loose snow which caused me to slip a few times. I wore snowshoes all the way up and much of the descent but opted for spikes when there was not enough snow to prevent scraping the rocks. It's always a good day when Bigelow is hiked.
