 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Small parking area just north of the trailhead. I don't remember exactly where the checkpoint is on KI Rd coming in from Greenville, but pretty sure this was well past it. $18 for day-use for non-residents, and $13 for Maine residents. Additional $15/night camping fee for both. Free day-use for those under 18 and over 70. Free camping for those under 18. $110 for season pass for both in and out-of-state residents. They only accept cash or check and are open 6am-9pm May-October. $20 fee for going in/out past hours. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
We came in Head of Gulf Trail rather than from the usual Gulf Hagas parking, so did not have to ford the West Branch. The guidebook says that you have to ford Gulf Hagas Brook near the jct of the AT and the Pleasant River Tote Rd, but I believe we found it rock hopable given how low water was at the time. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I think there were some tricky blowdowns along Gulf Hagas Cutoff but other than that, I don't remember if there were many. I think that all signage was intact. I don't remember if all the trails were marked or not, but I think those that were were blazed in blue. I don't recall any of the trails being difficult to follow. |

We hiked into Gulf Hagas via the Head of Gulf Trail (which is really Lodge to Lodge Trail, a very short section of what Gaia says East Side Rd, then Head of Gulf Trail), then made a clockwise loop using Rim Trail and Pleasant River Tote Rd, doing an OAB on Gulf Hagas Cutoff (shown on Gaia as Appalachian Trail Cutoff) along the way, then headed back to the car along Head of Gulf Trail, doing an OAB to Little Lyford Lodge and Cabins along Pleasant River Trail along the way. We took a long break at the lodge on our way back. It wasn't at all busy and peopel didn't seem to mind our hanging around. Gulf Hagas was very cool and lived up to my expectations. We did most or all of the little spur trails, many of which had some cliffs/edges/no fall zones along them, though overall, the Rim Trail was not terribly difficult. Gulf Hagas Cutoff felt like a very long OAB and gained and lost a bit of elevation, unlike Pleasant River Trail, which was pretty flat. Gaia had us at 15.1mi, 1250ft of gain. |
