 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From where I parked on Shaw Mtn Rd, I drove another 1/2mi NE on it, to the roadside parking at the SE end of Emmit Brook Trail. This part of the road is in fine shape for all cars, and no one else was parked there. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail |

 | Recommended Equipment: |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I don't think there were any that weren't bridged. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some, if not all, the trails were marked with red diamonds. Not hard to follow, and this entire hike was nearly all on old roads. I don't recall any blowdowns, but that doesn't mean there weren't any. I believe all trails signs were intact. |

3rd and final hike of the day after nearby Hedgehog Mtn and North and Middle Shaw Mtn. My route: Emmit Brook Trail to lodge --> OAB on Hinckley Cove Trail and OAB on Hinckley Connector Trail along the way --> Lakeside Trail (with a very short OAB on Dr. Wiggles Trail along the way) --> Shaw Mtn Cutoff --> Shaw Mtn Rd. Note that though the guidebook describes reaching the road by walking from the lodge down to the entrance road, Emmit Brook Trail is actually signed (and is shown on Gaia) as continuing in the woods, and crossing the entrance road. I did both for redlining. Saw one or two people around the lodge, one of whom was a volunteer who gave me a history lesson about the rocks we were looking at.
The bridge over Roach River offered a nice view and there was a group, presumably staying at the lodge, that was in the water here. The end of Hinckley Cove Trail was also a neat spot and featured a stop sign of all things!! I did the very short OAB on Dr. Wiggles Trail just because, with a name like that, I had to wonder what was at the end of it (a pet cemetery was my best guess). The campsite at the end of Lakeside Trail, which really requires a short walk along the end of Trout Pond Rd (shown on Gaia as Long Bog Rd), offered a great view, and I was treated to a beautiful sunset as well. Gaia has me at 12.9mi, 525ft of gain, 4hr42min. |
