 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I took back roads between Hedgehog and Shaw Mtn. Not sure if I was able to take what Gaia calls Middle Shaw Mountain Mtn Rd or if I took Lowover Crossover Rd (probably the latter), but I think I remember it being rougher than the other roads, as in probably mid-clearance needed. I think the parking area was very small with room for just 2-3 cars, but I was the only one there. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I don't think there were any. The trail always stays to the west side of the brook. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail is marked with red diamonds. I don't recall frequency, but I think it was often enough, and wasn't hard to follow, with the possible exceptions of where it turned on/off the roads (I seem to have a vague memory of one of them not being well marked, but I could be misremembering). I think that at least parts of the trail (mainly in the col between the two peaks?) were overgrown and should be cut back. Either way, lightly trodden, but not excessively so. I don't recall if there was anything more than easy stepover blowdowns or not. |

 | Comments: |
2nd hike of the day after nearby Hedgehog Mtn. The trail was mostly moderate, but had some steep pitches I think. It was overgrown at times too, I believe, mostly near the col. I did the OAB to North Peak first, and I believe the highpoint was just off trail. The end of the trail was a bit obscure, with there seeming to be a path perhaps continuing to the...left?? It began to downpour when I was somewhere around the col, so I was a bit disoriented and wasn't going to explore. The climb to North Peak was short and easy. The climb to Middle Peak involved a bit more elevation and was longer, but not close to the 0.7mi that's said on the sign. Nice little viewpoint next to the summit. The trail continued (and may have been marked/signed?) south toward South Peak and I was very tempted to go on but ultimately decided to make it a separate trip when officially working on NE 2Ks and maybe once the trail is added to the next edition of the guidebook. Gaia had me at 3.8mi, 1125ft of gain, 1hr57min. |
