Comments
Comments: Fantastic day out! I took advantage of a day off work to enjoy some winter conditions! My early start put me in the clouds for most of the above treeline section. Two sets of tracks started up from the parking lot, turned around early. No other sign of people. I used spikes until saddleback summit where snow depth increased considerably for the descent to the col. Neither traction would have been perfect. Bare rock ledges, ice flows, 2+ foot drifts, very little sign of the trail. I kept hitting the cairns with my poles to make sure they were rock and not ice/snow covered trees (they looked the same). A bit less snow on the climb up the horn, but still quite drifted. Most of my tracks were blown over on the return trip, so there probably won't be much left to follow. I switched back to spikes at the alpine sign and remembered stopping there with my old dog years ago. The snow got sticky when I got to lower elevation, but not horrendous. Overall a great Day!
