Comments
Comments: A spectacular first visit to The Owl, although the mostly sunny skies that were forecast did not materialize.

Overall, I found this hike to be on the easy/moderate side up until the last mile or so, where it gets steeper and rougher. The quarter mile between the old slide and the false summit, is VERY steep, with four points of contact scrambling up and down. Wild and rugged out here. From there it's a short 0.2 mi. ridge walk to the fully open true summit.

As noted above, the upper mountain remained in a cloud all day but there were some breaks that provided small views toward Katahdin and the southern ponds. I will definitely be back on a clear day!
