Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: $20 day pass or $50 season pass for out-of-state residents to access BSP. No day-use fee for Maine residents. The road should be suitable for all cars. Just lots of potholes to be wary of. The gate opens at 6am for day-use. This trailhead has room for just a couple gates and is a very short distance from the north gate. Wouldn't be a bad one to do in winter. I was the only one there at 6:15 and 9:30pm

Water Crossing Notes

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails and spurs (if they were blazed) were blazed in blue. I don't recall frequency but I don't think they were hard to follow and some pieces of trail were overgrown. I think that all trail signs were intact and I think that blowdowns were minimal but I didn't take many photos so I'm not sure.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs are not allowed in BSP.
Bugs
Bugs: Probably awful

Comments
Comments: 3rd and final hike of the day after redlining Dwelley Pond and Burnt Mtn earlier. I hiked Horse Mtn Trail all the way to its end on Five Ponds Trail, hiking the spur to Billfish Gorge along the way, then did the spurs to the East Overlook and the true summit on my way back. Overall, I think this hike was a bit more challenging and a PITA than I would've guessed. The hike up to the summit of col was maybe a little teeper than I would have guessed but certainly not bad, some steeper pitcheds on the way down to Billfish Pond, and then an obnoxious sidehill with some PUDs between there and Five Ponds Trail. I didn't see anyone. Got a not particular cool sunset on the ledges, then threw on the headlamp and descended. Gaia had me at 7.1mi, 1400ft of gain, 3hr22min.
