 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We camped at South Branch Pond campground, but the day-use lot had plenty of space. Roads are dusty as ever in this hot, dry weather, but all good. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
NO water. BYO. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some blowdowns in between Traveler and North Traveler, but little paths clearly navigate around them. Considering how difficult it is to get a crew into this location, I thought the blow downs weren't that bad. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
No pups. It's Baxter. |
|
 | Bugs: |
We forgot bug spray and ended up being okay. Horse flies were the most noticeable insect, second to gnats. We emerged practically unscathed by insect bites after two nights at camp. |

HOT. We knew it would be hot. We hiked anyways. We went counterclockwise as suggested, so the first half of the hike was the hardest. Remi was expecting Little Knife Edge to be more challenging...no chimneys or anything, although we used our hands at times. We had a good breeze most of the time up on the ridge, but it was still exposed and scorching. This was the first hike where I purposefully tried to slow my breathing to lower my heart rate while moving, which honestly felt pretty nice. We packed 10L of water between the two of us and we would have drank more if there was a water source to filter from. Jumping in the pond after was a religious experience. We started hiking at 7:15 and finished around 16:30, so we took 9 hours and 15 minutes for the loop. BSP suggests planning for 8-10 hours. If it wasn't so hot we would have moved faster but we were intentionally taking it easy. Still, it was a day of Type 2 fun (miserable at times, but fun to look back upon). As I mentioned above, there is a section of blow downs, but they were easy to navigate and I was expecting much worse based on some recent reports on alltrails. There were some times when we had to focus on navigation, as blazes were faded or cairns were blending into a sea of rocks. |
