|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
No significant crossings. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Had expected numerous blowdowns based on comments from a month prior, but there was not a single one. Corridor was narrow at higher elevations, but easy to follow and in excellent shape. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Steep section above the abandoned fire warden's cabin would be challenging, but doable for experienced hiking dogs. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Sprayed at the trailhead, and they weren't an issue. |

 | Comments: |
Proximity to Greenville and ease of trailhead access were definitely a plus. The trail itself was rugged, but in excellent shape. Prepare for an intense climb starting just below the fire warden's cabin and continuing to the scenic overlook spur near 1.7 miles- the upper section gains 1,150' in 0.7 miles. Minimal scrambling, just a seemingly infinite series of very steep rock steps. Saw a mostly decomposed juvenile moose carcass about halfway up the trail. Despite the wildfire haze, views down to and across Moosehead Lake were excellent. Full details on Unnecessary Climb! |
