 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
As described in the guidebook. I believe the road was in good enough shape for low clearance cars; just watch any potholes. Not a logging road so not as wide but in very good shape. The parking area is just a signed grassy area with room for several cars. Surprise, surprise, I was the only one there. |

The trail was well blazed in blue I believe and was lightly travelled but not hard to follow.
There were sings of blowdown work so I think this trail is much better taken care of than other recent "trails" I've been on :P. The trail is signed at its start but I don't think it was signed at the loop jt or anywhere else.
Second hike of the day after "nearby" Bald Mtn off of Mt Chase. After the trail finding issues on Bald and all the remote peaks and wet indiscernible "trails" littered with blowdowns that went straight up Friday, and the miles of blowdowns yesterday in Deboullie, well this was a nice change of pace! Owls Head is indeed lightly travelled but is well marked, easy enough to follow (I think there was one part that was a little tricky when ascending the backside of it), and only has a few blowdowns. I hiked this after some rain as the sun just came through and it made for a gorgeous evening hike. The walk along Scraggly Lake and hearing the water lap up against the shore for quite a long while was very nice. The two needed spurs were not hard to find. I believe the first one had a bench on it but I didn't think it offered any particularly interesting view of the summit. I followed the loop clockwise around the summit which is opposite of what the guidebook describes. I think this makes for a slightly more gradual climb. The trail was wet from rain when I started but I don't recall any mud. I think rocks were slick though. Gaia had me at 3.5mi, 200ft of gain, 1hr47min. |
