Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Road test for those afraid of the Sandwich Notch Trail. I passed. Two hikers we met said if we made this, we should have no problem there. Forest road has a few rocks to watch out for, and there are some ruts near the end, but no worse than that rut on the Starr King Trail head Parking - Big salute to the owners who parked one in back of the other. You made it possible for folks coming after you to get a spot! Thanks!

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Around 7, and this isn't even the whole trail! First one we encountered has no stepping stones, so take your pick - get your feet wet, take off your footwear, or use waders (as a few reports have in the past). It's not a difficult crossing, though.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: It's a seldom used trail. There are some faded blazes, except where it passes through the wilderness area.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs should have fun. Lots of water But mud as well, you may want put a blanket or sheet on your vehicle seats. Oh yeah, TICKS TICKS TICKS
Bugs
Bugs: Everything you can think of. Good and bad. So many beautiful butterflies. And TICKS

Comments
Comments: This report is for the East end up to the wilderness boundary. We had not completed this part last year. Starts with a gorgeous meadow created by logging some years back. Good views of surrounding mountains. Beautiful wildflowers, ferns, etc. But remember, you can make a lot of unwanted friends in that environment. We did.

Then into the woods. A lot of muddy sections. The several water crossings are one right after the other. I put my Tevas on and left them on. Figured the footbed was smooth enough. But twigs get in between the sandal and your foot. Mosquitoes and blackflies will be interested as well. I wore my boots on the return and made better time.

Many blowdowns. There is a huge birch. Stay to the left of it.

Lovely area, looking forward to returning to that trailhead to get the section of Miles Notch we haven't done yet.

Surprised (pleasantly) to meet two other hikers. Hardly anyone usually comes to places like this
