Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Big Spencer Mountain, ME
Trails
Trails: Big Spencer Mountain Trail, bushwhack
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, June 19, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sias Hill Rd. & Sias Hill Bypass are in good shape. While there are some protruding rocks, the worst offenders marked with flourescent spay paint, the road is in good shape. Spencer Mountain Road is in OK shape. There are more potholes and it is rougher than Sias Hill Rd., because it is not actively being used for logging. HOWEVER, I was able to easily drive my Honda Accord to the trailhead. My previous, and lower clearance, Honda Civic would also have been able to do the drive relatively easily (again, with care). A high-clearance and/or 4wd/awd is NOT NECESSARY to reach the trailhead. Drive slow and smart.

Comments
Comments: The ~0.3 mile bushwhack from the end of the trail to the recognized summit—the canister is there—and the nearby high bumps—is not as bad as I'd expected based on previous reports. That said, it can get thickish in places and the slowing was slow. Keep your eyes on the ground for easier paths.
