Comments
Comments: Today, we hiked the new trail network on Jordan Mountain in Riley Township built by Inland Woods & Trails. We made a figure-eight loop going counterclockwise on the Beechnut Loop and clockwise on the Jordan Loop, with a short out-and-back on the B Trail to the ski trail viewpoint.

The Beechnut Loop is a very elaborately built hiking trail, with many sturdy bridges, stairs, switchbacks, benchcuts, and a mostly level surface. It passes through mixed forest with one restricted viewpoint towards Sunday River Whitecap.

The Jordan Loop is a more traditional hiking trail, although it still utilizes more switchbacks than most trails in Maine. It passes through many sections of beautiful, mossy, older-growth conifer forest. Although the true summit of Jordan Mountain doesn't have any views, there is a small clearing and a bench to rest on. A short distance to the west of the summit is a short spur to a wooden observation deck. From the observation deck are great views into the heart of the Mahoosuc Range, with Goose Eye front and center. I especially loved this viewpoint because there are no roads or buildings visible from it.

Overall, it was a great, relatively easy, hike on very well built trails. The viewpoint offers a unique perspective, and it's definitely worth hiking, if you get the opportunity!
