Comments
Comments: No need for snowshoes or traction. The little snow that remains are near the beginning of the trail. Water-proof footwear and/or gaiters are helpful in some places especially down low where there is a long stretch of water-logged leaves. There are plenty of rocks in this stretch that helps in keeping the shoes dry. The ledges are not steep, so the wet surfaces did not pose any problems with slippage.
Sweeping views west from the summit including the Presidential Range and nice views down to Moose Pond from the ledges.
Nice to talk with a former croo member of 3 AMC huts who had ascended via Firewarden's Trail and a group from Conway that use the Southwest Ridge Trail. There are warning signs on the abandoned fire tower.
