Wow! This might sound like hyperbole, but today was the best day of hiking I've ever had. We started at about 9am from Grafton Notch and hiked north on the Appalachian Trail. In some sections there was a faint trench and some section not. My hiking partner broke most of the trail, like she normally does. There was 1 to 2 feet of heavy snow for 3 miles from Grafton Notch to East Bald Pate. The temperature was in the teens and twenties, with no wind to speak of, and blue bird skies. From East to West Bald Pate was mostly consolidated and exposed rock going up West Bald Pate. The views today were absolutely spectacular and I had such a great day with my hiking partner. It was just the 2 of us, so there's now a broken out trail, but its still soft in some spots. |
