 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked in Sugarloaf lot D and walked past the base lodge, across one ski trail, and on a couple roads to the Nordic ski area where you’ll see signs for the Burnt Mountain Trail. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Our only crossing was bridged on the way up but the packed snow had melted a bit into the water on our way back. Very easily crossed right next to it. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One step-over |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
We brought an Aussie who had a great time jumping around in the snow. Would not recommend for small dogs as the drifts are deep. |

This trail report won’t matter after tomorrow’s nor'easter but we enjoyed a bluebird day. Trail was broken for about a half mile; after that our party of four took turns breaking the deep powder, leaving a well packed trail for anyone else who goes up today. Snowshoes are 100% necessary today and definitely will be after tomorrow. Keep an eye out for the blue blazes; at some points it’s easy to confuse the hiking trail with the ski glades. We stopped a bit below the summit since we felt satisfied and didn’t want to switch out of snowshoes for some of the bare rock sections. Great views! |
