Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest was had. We started the hike again at -4, but it got up to 12 today. Insanely warm. Very different snow. Minimal/trace (1"-2" MAX) to Horn Ponds Junction, then an annoying level of inconsistent snow depths until about 2600. We started in snowshoes but took them off, it was absolutely the wrong footwear for today. As noted, at 2600, in the area of the wetland, we put them on and from here the snow became far more predictable. Stayed on until our return to this spot. Trail still easy to follow, drifts on ridge 18"-2'. One large blowdown on the egress of the campground to South Horn, if you drop just below it and follow the contour, you will return to the trail in very short order. Very easy to lose it here. Great snow covered trees. Lots of hoarfrost witnessed. Really great day up in the Dr. Suess krumoltz on the approach. Was able to see Katahdin and Washington from summit
