Comments
Comments: Solo snowshoe hike of the south summit and east ridge of Patch Mountain. Began at the Far Winde-A-Way Nature Preserve trailhead on Greenwood Road, hiked up Access Path to where it turns sharply to the right toward the kiosk. Turned left here onto an unmarked trail to height-of land, then turned right onto a skid trail that runs up into the rocky bowl between the east ridge and the main summit of Patch. Followed up into the bowl along the base of the ledges to where it petered out, then bushwhacked steeply up the headwall toward the marked ATV trail just below the main summit. Followed the ATV trail to the south summit and the first and second ledges (nice views from both; best view from the 2nd). Backtracked and continued along the ATV trail N to the start of the east ridge, then bushwhacked E along the ridge to Winding Way Trail at the far E ridge crest (winter view only). Descended via Winding Way, Wheel Barrow, and Access Path. Light bare boot traffic the hiking trails. Broke trail through 5"-6" alternately crusty snow / heavy powder the rest of the way. Did not visit the main summit.
