Trail in good condition. Trail is mainly in a wilderness area.
Many tree falls. All easy to get by.
Small striped maple has several branches & trunk on trail near the top of the hardwood forest.
An evergreen across the trail before reaching the junction with the Spruce Hill Trail at about 1.5' above ground with many limbs stubs where one would step over. Best to walk around the tree.
A couple of other trees down uphill from the prior mentioned junction. Easy to get by.

| Comments: |
There was no ice below the junction with Spruce Hill Trail. There was a lot of leaves on the trail before this junction. In places the leaves were up to a foot deep. The leaves filled the many drainage ditches. Many rocks (both loose and fixed) beneath the leaves.
There was a bit of ice between the Spruce Hill and upper Blueberry Ridge junctions. I did not use traction as careful footing can avoid this ice.
There is considerably more ice on the trail on approach to the summit of Speckled Mountain. Traction is recommended. There are bare surfaces between the ice stretches.
The wind was strong this morning especially on route 113. It abated after noon.
Saw nobody else on the trail today.
The views were limited on the open summit due to clouds. I was able to the Royces and Caribou. Momentarily, I saw a snowy Presidential peak poking above the cloud bank. |
