Comments: Flints Mountain was recently acquired by the Mahoosucs Land Trust and is part of the Flint Mountain Wildlands. The Rapa Nui Trail (I would love to know why it is called this) is currently the only official trail in the preserve and is still under construction in some sections. The trailhead has a good sized parking area and a nice kiosk. The trail itself is clear and easy to follow, but it doesn't have any permanent markings yet. After climbing the lower slopes of the mountain, it then tackles the extremely steep ascent to the view ledge utilizing a series of switchbacks, stone steps, and wooden stairs (some of which are still under construction). This section is very steep and can be quite treacherous with slippery leaves and loose rocks, I loved it! At the end of the trail, there is a good viewpoint south over Chalk Pond. In addition to the Rapa Nui Trail, there are two other old trails on the mountain marked with blue and red blazes. These are part of an old trail network created by the landowner before the area was protected. Perhaps these will eventually be included in the preserve's official trail network in the future.
