Date of Hike: Sunday, November 17, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Drove 0.3 mi up Snow Mtn Rd to clearing on right to park - now a problem with an SUV. Probably rookie error but if driving from Rangele/Oquossoc via Rt.16, then Morton Cutoff (since Kennebec River Rd is gated there) - do not turn onto Wiggle Brook Rd from Lincoln Pond Rd. Continue to junction of Kennebec River Rd, where Tim Pond Rd intersects, then turn L, and access Wiggle Brook up ahead. Some sketchy boards on the first bridge there, gave us chuckles remembering that Carrabassett Valley Rd air-conditioned bridge before it was repaired about 10 yrs ago, otherwise fine.

Comments
Comments: Took more time to navigate logging roads to get here from Rangeley/Oquossoc than to do this hike. (Esp given our navigational error). Surprisingly defined herd path to summit and even caught some views on descent.
A trace of snow but paths are not steep enough to merit spikes.
Stick season is Definitely a nice time for this hike with deadened leaves on the chest high brush section making it easier, temps that froze up the mud, and random views.
Amazing how many Mainers were driving this backcountry network of logging roads on a sunny November afternoon. These vast tracts of forests are awe inspiring in their own way, in any season.

Given this is a NEHH peak we thought we’d find company on these paths, like last week at Elephant Mtn, but it was just us today. This puts was at #93 and as much as bushwhacking is an acquired taste, the strategizing, planning and navigating these peaks-admittedly made much easier by the help of fellow NEHH hikers and GPSs - is great practice in finding your life path, and these mini- accomplishments resonate for beyond the hills.
