Not sure what was more giggle-worthy this morning - listening to Loretta Lynn and driving past Webb Lake (IYKYK) or counting up the "lists" this hike, with 4 different mileages (that I found) appears on at least 3 objective lists (3000 footers, ME-200, MMG Red-lining [although not a list, per se], maybe a firetower list) and one completely subjective list (50F). I am curious to know who or what entity decided they were going to be the arbiter of the 50 Finest views. But, I digress...
Anyway, the bottom 2/3 of the trail is full of leaves, and fairly thickly in the first half mile. So much so, that coming down was a bit of a game - take a step and try to figure out if you are on a rock, root, or bunch of acorns. Fortunately, the stone steps were not too impacted. The top part of the trail, in all of it's beautiful rock splendor was in reall Stopped by the spring, ruins of the firewarden's cabin, two viewpoints, and went to what I think is the true highpoint. A generally quiet hike thatfit the bill after not feeling so great this week.
The Nature Trail is sweet and very family friendly. Road is gated, so you will need to walk up the road. Fun to see Old Blue and Elephant in the distance at the parking area and on the backside, a perfectly framed view of Mt Blue itself. Nice to walk it today - it must be packed in the warmer months.
On the way home. less honky-tonkin' and more contemplation. Regardless of "things", we are all just walking each other home. |
