| Comments: |
The most difficult section of trail to navigate was the switchbacks on the Stone House Trail where there are no blazes as it is in the wilderness area. The leaves are obscuring the trail bed. One must be attentive to the ground to discern the pathway. The old section of the Stone House Trail is easily followed.
Lots of ledges on this route with many great views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. Saw the snowy cone of Mt Washington from the summit of Speckled Mountain. Much of the trail on the ledges are lined by red blueberry leaves. Saw a few bog laurel flowers on the Lookout Loop.
Saw a large white-tailed deer on Blueberry Ridge Trail. Also, saw a hawk soar by.
If you hike the Stone House Trail, be sure to take the two signed short side paths to Rattlesnake Pool and the Gorge.
Met some other hikers including John and Brett from Augusta ME, Steve and Mary from Chatham NH, three hikers from Madbury NH/Lovell ME, and a couple from Winchester MA. |
