Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Good time to go. The dreaded first crossing was great. I did need to step on partially submerged rocks on the way in, and managed to stay out of trouble.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The traditional brown sign you see on the side of the road with the hiker logo is gone. There is a white sign giving the trail name and length. Signs marking Wilderness area look brand new. A lot of areas could used new bog bridges or stepping stones. Many many blow downs. To those who dispatched a few in the Wilderness area (no mechanical devices permitted) WE SALUTE YOU!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of water to stay hydrated and mud to make a mess in.
Bugs
Bugs: A few skeeters
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A dog, maybe... About a mile in Prema saw a large animal. I figured maybe a coyote, but we heard barking. No other people around, I wondered if he or she was lost. Took of fast, so I could not tell you what breed. Voice was deep, so probably a larger dog.

Comments
Comments: More fears overcome this week. After hearing and reading about the first water crossing and how easy it is to lose the trail in the Wilderness portion I was pleasantly surprised. Probably because this was a very dry summer it was easier. Did not find following it difficult. Maybe because we came in from the Rt 113 end. The area right before the eastern border of the Wilderness area seems more obscure heading west than it did heading east, but we made it. Turned around at that sign, will be easy to remember when we go back from the east end to finish it.

This trail is a mycologist's paradise. Prema took a picture of small orange mushrooms growing inside a dark tree stump. Beautiful!

Big thanks to Gregory and his friend, who had kindly offered to take as along last summer when they went ( higher water levels and nice days that should be used for views dissuaded me). We may have not gone with you both, but your encouragement and info helped!
