| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Just a few hundred feet from Baxter Park Road. Some large puddles in the road. Mid clearance will be fine. Low clearance might need care. There were a few different entryways to access the main road which may help too. Plenty of room to park and I was the only one there at 6:15 and 8:45pm. |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
I'm not sure if there were any. If there were, they were rock hopable. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
While there were a lot of leaners and such over the trail, there were very few actual blowdowns I think. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Good trail for dogs except for the tower. |
|
| Bugs: |
They were quite bad and bug spray doesn't seem to help against these awful flies. |

The trail is blazed in blue. While there were a lot of leaners and such over the trail, there were very few actual blowdowns I think. The trail is signed at its start but I don't think it was at the summit where it leaves the road and becomes a footpath.
1st day in Millinocket. Second hike of the day after some redlining on Baxter and Hamlin. This trail reminded me of Fourth and Fifth Mountain trails also in the MMG. As such, I was a big fan! A lightly travelled trail, beautiful woods, remote, nice grades, and spectacular views :) The footing was perhaps a little rougher than others and the trail seems to still be forming in a sense as the footbed isn't always terribly well established and, at times, seems to fit the description of "a random path of blazed trees in the woods" but I still liked it. Some minor PUDS but this is a great alternative to much busier BSP, being right outside the park. The guidebook and signs made it sound like the new tower could be quite sketchy but it's, mostly, anything but. The only sketchy parts about it is that the rails are not closed in, and it's quite tall. The views from the top are phenomenal and I was treated to some nice sunset colors :) I don't recall ground conditions all that well but I'd assume there was mud. I spooked some deer on my way down which is always a surprise (I always thought it funny that we think of deer as common and moose as rare and yet I've seen WAYYY more moose than deer while hiking). Gaia had me at about 5.2mi, 800ft of gain, 2hr17min. |
