Trails
Trails: Carlo Col Trail, Mahoosuc Trail, Goose Eye Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 15, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Success Road was fine, but plenty of potholes, as well as a few washed out culverts (single lane to get around).
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hoppable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I recollect a few blowdowns on each of the tree trails. I cut out one blowdown on the Mahoosuc that was blocking the trail and causing a herd path. Noted the Goose Eye Trail waterbars had been recently cleared. Some failed bog bridges on Mahoosuc.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I do not recommend the Mahoosuc Trail south of Goose Eye, as there are two iron rung ladders to contend with.
Bugs
Bugs: Other than a deer fly at the bottom in the afternoon, none, probably due to the brisk weather.

Comments
Comments: Loop was fairly dry, other than the usual mudbogs on the Mahoosuc Trail and a few wet ledges in the shade.

Carlo Col Trail had better footing than I remember from many years ago.

Nice early fall-like weather with temperatures in the 50s to 60s down low and a good breeze up high. Wish I had gloves for above treeline; it was chilly. Not much in way of crowds (other than a large group at the shelter). Great way to avoid the sound of motorcycles this weekend.
