| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The unpaved park tote road is in good shape. Arrive at the Togue Pond Gate early to get a parking spot at Katahdin Stream Campground, particularly on a weekend, or reserve a parking spot online. |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
No significant crossings on this route. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns, none of which presented any major impediment. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
None allowed in BSP |
|
| Bugs: |
Perhaps it was the early start, but the bugs were slightly less rapacious than one might expect, relatively speaking of course, for Baxter State Park in June.
That said, I used a combination of 40% DEET and Repel lemon eucalyptus (a potent anti-bug cocktail, the use of which I refer to as "fleabasing") prior to the hike, and re-applied at the summit. |

I had the Owl to myself. I was on the summit by 7:30 before the low-lying clouds burned off. I was serenaded en route by hermit thrushes, white-throated sparrows, winter wrens, black-throated green warblers, and some others that I could not identify. Spotted a mink just before I got back to the trailhead! Beautiful day to be out! |
