Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Bigelow Mountain - -Avery Peak, Bigelow Mountain -- West Peak, Bigelow Mountain -- South Horn, Bigelow Mountain -- North Horn, ME
Trails
Trails: Firewardens Trail, Bigelow Range Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 1, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted a car at the AT parking across the road (where we finished) and started the hike at the Stratton Pond parking at the end of the road where there was lots of room. There seems to be current road work going on with signs and equipment but we had no issue on this Saturday. Someone parked right at Stratton Pond and there doesn't seem to be any reason not to but fewer spots.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Any crossings had bridges or were very small
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Just a couple of blowdowns on the AT section between the Horns and Horns Pond but a lot had been removed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We met a few good trail dogs (off leash but not aggressive and responded to owner's voice commands).
Bugs
Bugs: Lots of bugs but they didn't really bother until we were nearing the end as the day warmed. There were those large fly/hornet looking things that I've seen on summits before on the peaks but they seemed to be more interested in each other.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found:

Comments
Comments: Lots of variety underfoot, amazing views, lots of wildflowers - clintonia, bunchberry, lady slippers, star flowers and rosy twisted stalk to name a few (that I can name)
Recommend taking the short spur trail by the big glacial erratic that looks over Horns Pond (on the AT).
