Well Katahdin did not open for memorial day weekend which was sad as I believe there would have been less snow there. I would like to say most of the trails will dry out once all the snow is gone. I was shocked to see how much was left between south brother and north brother. Anything that was exposed to steepness or no trees around were snow free. The most people I have ever seen on North Brother which was pretty amazing. It is sad as I have not seen the north brother trail since 2014 (outside of snow years) and the erosion is out of control. I am not sure how the trail can get fixed but it need major work with erosion control, which just simple water bars looks like could have helped but it is beyond that repair now. The coe slide was a little sketchy in spots with the wet moss as well, needs a little more blazing or cairns to find where you are needed to go safely. It was a good alternative day out in Baxter though! |
