 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Stone House Road is probably in the best shape that I've seen it to be in the past. The only issue was that there are some downed power lines and wire support cables on the road. Some are across the road so just be aware and drive slow. |

Nice hike up to the lookout, with great views. The trail has running water in it, which starts, just passed the spur to Rattlesnake Pool. This is normal, and even in dry spells it's wet. Once the trail starts to climb, it narrows and dries out nicely. Once into the open woods, the switchbacks have a lot of leaf cover and no blazes, so the trail might be hard to follow if one is not familiar with it. I even get confused at times, and I've done it many times. Just before leveling out on the ridge, there are a few slabs that are slippery when wet. Other than that, it's a great little hike with nice views. When I got back to my car, I saw a large Bear on the road, about 100 yards away. He was standing up on his two hind feet and scratching his back up and down on a telephone pole. I had to do a double take. I thought it was a person dressed in black. On the way out he was walking up the road ahead of me, and he looked back and decided to get off of the road. Nice quiet walk in the woods. |
