	Trails:	Burnt Meadow Trail, Twin Brook Trail, Stone Mountain Trail

	Date of Hike:	Wednesday, April 17, 2024

	Parking/Access Road Notes:	Lot off route 160 was not muddy. Watch out exiting lot as it is on a curve in the highway with a 50 mph speed limit.

	Surface Conditions:	Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

	Recommended Equipment:

	Water Crossing Notes:	Minor brooks on Twin Brook Trail. Easy to cross.

	Trail Maintenance Notes:	Trails in good condition. The Stone Mountain Trail needs new blazes. One large tree down on the Twin Brook Trail not far from the junction with the Burnt Meadow Mtn Trail (1.5' - 2' diameter hardwood). Easy to walk around. I sawed out two small beech trees that were across the Twin Brook Trail.

	Dog-Related Notes:	Fine for dogs. Saw two dogs today.

	Bugs:	A few small flying bugs in only one spot.

	Lost and Found:


	Comments:	Most of the trail was dry leaves. The ledges were dry. Surprised to see very few trees or branches down from the last storm. No snow or ice on trail except a 1 foot patch on the Stone Mountain Trail. The Stone Mountain Trail requires watchfulness for the faded blue blazes to remain on the trail that has many switchbacks. Many orange colored flagging (for future trail work?) helped locate the trail. Limited views. The best views were from the Twin Brook Trail on descent from Burnt Meadow Mountain North Peak on a ledge. Could see the snowy Mt Washington and Carter Notch. Met a family from Gorham ME and Joe from Quincy MA. Saw some white wildflowers in bloom in only one place. Spotted a fairly large brown bird (hawk?) on a ledge on the Burnt Meadow Mountain Trail. It let me get fairly close. There were two of these birds soaring about.
