Comments
Comments: My transition from skis to hiking boots is happening much earlier than normal this year, and today I went for my first hike of the season on the new trails on Quill Hill in Rome. These new trails connect to the existing trail network on The Mountain, maintained by the 7 Lakes Alliance.

I made a roughly 5 mile loop over The Mountain and Quill Hill utilizing the Blaisdell, Lambert, Outer Loop, Great Pond Loop, Main, Long Pond Loop, and Quill Hill Trails. The new trails are very nice and seem to be well built. They are less than a year old, so care should be used to follow them, as a distinct footbed has yet to be established, although they are mostly well marked.

As to be expected in the spring, the trails had some wet areas, but they weren't too bad. There was very little snow left, and almost none of it was on the trails. These new trails are a great expansion on the Kennebec Highlands trail network, and are definitely worth a visit, if you haven't hiked them yet!
