Bare-booted AT Rt 27 to Stratton Brook Pond Road. Snowshoes on up AT. Tracked but uneven but improved with elevation. Guy ahead of me heading to Cranberry Peak. I tried to go to the Horns from the col where AT heads right and Range Trail left. Tree down right off and just too thick. Continued on following guy to Cranberry Peak who was now breaking fresh trail through light snow over crust. Going pretty easy. Trees hammered with snow and rime close to peak. Trail hard to follow so short bushwhack to Peak. Clear beautiful day. Sheltered from wind most of the day so not that cold. Headed back and went over Cranberry Pond. Ran into two Quebecois guys that bare-booted all the way up and basically ruined the upper half of the trail to Cranberry Pond with postholes. Frustrating. 10 miles total. |
