 | Comments: |
Aside from several snowmobilers on the tote road on Saturday and one Sunday, we had the entire area to ourselves. Our objective was North Brother and we were successful. We (and by that I mean my hiking buddy Pete) broke 4-12" of new snow from the trailhead to the summit of North Brother. Temps were 10 deg at the base and 2 deg near the summit with up to 30 mph winds. Conditions were overcast most of the day with brief glimpses of the sun. We were on snowshoes the entire hike. Microspikes would have been doable and crampons overkill. Summit conditions were gusty and cold, so our stay there was limited to a few pictures holding the summit sign that was broken off its post. Visibility was poor and there were no views of nearby peaks, but it was a great day to be alive in the mountains. |
