 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Large plowed parking area off North Rd as described in the guidebook with room for over a dozen cars. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossings were rock hopable but some rocks were submerged. Of course very clunky with snowshoes too. I could see the crossings, especially the first one, being a little tricky at high water. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I think the trails may have been blazed but I don't recall the color. It was very infrequent. Maybe blue. They were primarily marked with blue surveyor's tape. The tape was actually fairly regular and the trails were not too difficult to follow. Jcts were well signed and I do not recall any blowdowns. |

Second and final hike of the day after Locke Mtn (I forgot to say that the trail does not go to the true summit of Locke Mtn). We ascended Parks-Bennet Trail to the loop jct, followed the loop counter-clockwise, re-ascended 0.2mi of the loop CCW again, then descended Red Pine Ridge Trail. Nice views from several points along the trail similar to Locke Mtn. Also similar to Locke Mtn, the trail does not go to the true summit. Red Pine Trail was interesting and unique though the trail felt awkward at times with its contouring below the ridge. Snow conditions were somewhat similar to what we saw on Locke Mtn except that the snow was more supportive here and didn't seem quite as deep (though none of it was really deep of course). Nonetheless, snow coverage was essentially complete. Gaia had us at 3.25mi, 900ft of gain, 2hr22min. |
