 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the designated, but if memory serves correctly relatively small, lot on Rt 102. I believe there was plenty of room as it was just us and maybe another car or two given the rather dreary nature of the day. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I don't recall any that weren't bridged though the trails themselves were streams at times with the recent rain. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I believe all trails were blazed in blue, easy to follow, and trail signs intact. There was a messy step through blowdown a short ways from the south end of Valley Peak I believe. I think there were two blowdowns on Valley Cove Trail. One small stepover and one larger blowdown that fell parallel to and right on top of the trail. If you're an obsessive redliner and want to stay to the true trail, you're going to have a real fun time finagling your way through this one. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Most hiking dogs will probably be just fine. I think coming off the north side of St. Sauveur Mtn on Valley Peak Trail was a little scrambly maybe. The talus field on Valley Cove Trail could bother some as well. |

First hike on our third day in Acadia. Our route: St Sauveur Mtn Trail --> Valley Peak Trail (north) --> Valley Cove Trail (south) --> Valley Peak Trail (north) --> Spur of St. Sauveur Mtn Trail that departs from Valley Peak Trail around Valley Peak to summit --> OAB St Sauveur Mtn Trail and missing segment of Valley Peak Trail between summit and Valley Peak --> St Sauveur Mtn Trail north --> Ledges Trail --> 3/4mi road walk back to car. We also did a short OAB on what's shown on Gaia as "Echo Lake Ledges" to Echo Lake immediately behind the parking area on the west side of the road before this hike. Just a short little trail down to the lake.
The trails were very wet and muddy after about 3/4in rain the night before. I was surprised by the amount of running water on the trails after less than an inch of rain. The base of Ledges Trail was quite the stream! Lots of ledge on this trail but not too scrambly/steep and it provided decent enough traction even when wet. It also helped that there was hardly any ice. Not much in the way of views given the weather, but a great day nonetheless. While most of Valley Cove Trail is quite flat, the talus field offered something quite different! Gaia had us at almost 7mi, about 1450ft of gain, 4hr15min. |
