Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No issues parking at the Sugarloaf Golf Club (aside that after the snow melted I was in a handicap spot, woops) or on 27. Second hand beta from the Maine Hiking Page says CVR is open, however there is one massive washout at 1.8 miles in that is not passable with a highway vehicle. YMMV.

Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the Longfellows was had. NO SPIKE NATION! This finished my Maine Winter 4k! Yay! We departed from the Golf Course and around the 11th tee. It was mainly a compass bearing and path of least resistance, its an ACTUAL bushwhack, but the woods are pretty open and good moving (over a mile an hour good). There are some pink flags, which are denoting the USFS border, and some blue ones, which denote wetland areas, don't get too excited. Basically just find a path in between the two drainages and you're golden. New overnight snow was about an inch, going up to about 3-4" of very dry fluffy pow. Thanks to route suggestions from Dragoon and Steve in the 802 club, we took the long way to Redington and got that out of the way. No issues at all along the road, there is very little snowcover (read that as: if it didn't snow last night, it would have been bare). There is some erosion damage along the logging roads that will have to be hashed out how bad it actually is without snow. Unable to open canister on Redington. For someone who had never done the whack from R to SC, I was able to follow it for a vast majority of the mile in length, with some help from a prior track from Honey_Badger. Made quick work of that, as well as the trip to North. Snow depths at elevation are abysmal, a generous guess of 6" - there was more new snow on the road then up high. We saw no one all day, but there was evidence of possibly the fellas that went through there around Christmas. Only faint evidence. Same can be said from SC to CVR. No evidence of anyone recent on AT from North to 27 until the lower glade, a single set had gotten here and turned back, and then another handful must have gone for a walk a mile or so up the trail and turned back. The pow was actually pretty grippy, did not need any spikes, Honey_Badger used hers but it was only moderately helpful. Pretty bad you can bareboot this in JANUARY. Where are you Snow Miser?!
