After hiking Ladies Delight Hill, I then drove through a network of dirt roads to the Five Kezar Ponds Reserve in Stoneham for a longer hike. After a short road walk from the eastern trailhead, I made a loop on Ron's Loop, before starting up the Orange Trail. After a relatively easy ascent, I reached the ridgeline of Charles Hill, which is also sometimes known as Mount Reho. While there had only been patchy snow lower down, the ridge had more consistent snow, although still not enough to be an issue, even without traction. The viewpoint near the summit of Charles Hill provides an excellent view south and west over the Five Kezar Ponds to the White Mountains and hills of southern Maine. After enjoying the summit viewpoint for a while, I descended on the Mountain Trail, taking a detour on Tom's Path to the summit of Jewett Pond Hill with its nice viewpoint, along the way. I really enjoyed this network of trails, and I hope to return sometime to explore the trails on the north side of the ridge to McDaniels Hill and Trout Pond. |
