Second morning hike of the day with the CCC after very close by Long Mountain:) Given the 860ft of gain over just 0.7mi, I was surprised that the guidebook described the trail as moderate but truth to be told, while there was some steep pitches and the short trail was definitely a bit of a butt kicker, it wasn't as bad as I thought. I do not remember gorund conditions well but I'd assumer there was still lots of mud. The rock castle was very cool. Note that the 50ft spur to the overview of the Rock Castle didn't really feel like a spur to me. It seemed to be right on trail and you just had to step to the left side to get a good view down on it. We completed the loop clockwise. Some great views including one on the way up. The loop is shown on Gaia. Gaia had us at 2mi, 900ft of gain, 50-55min. |
