Trails
Trails: Appalachian Trail, herd path
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, November 4, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: @6am first and only car at parking area. A gate prevents travel over a washed out bridge, leaving 0.5 mi road walk to reach the AT.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Slush
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: nothing of concern.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Naturally the AT is in good condition from Caribou Valley Road to the North Crocker summit. The herdpath from South Crocker to Redington is very well-trodden however quite narrow in points leaving you subject to whatever moisture/snow is on the tree branches. It also gets hard to follow in one section near some moose bogs, without Gaia I likely would have been forced to turn back.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No dogs or other hikers seen during my 6 hour trek.
Bugs
Bugs: none
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: picked up a couple items of trail trash. no gear or clothing.

Comments
Comments: first trip, climbing South Crocker under headlamp I did not realize how steep that section is above the tent site. I opted to reclimb Crocker and return via AT I'd rather the steep descent than 2+ mile road walk.
