| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
@6am first and only car at parking area. A gate prevents travel over a washed out bridge, leaving 0.5 mi road walk to reach the AT. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Slush |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
nothing of concern. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Naturally the AT is in good condition from Caribou Valley Road to the North Crocker summit. The herdpath from South Crocker to Redington is very well-trodden however quite narrow in points leaving you subject to whatever moisture/snow is on the tree branches. It also gets hard to follow in one section near some moose bogs, without Gaia I likely would have been forced to turn back. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
No dogs or other hikers seen during my 6 hour trek. |
|
| Bugs: |
none |
|
| Lost and Found: |
picked up a couple items of trail trash. no gear or clothing. |

| Comments: |
first trip, climbing South Crocker under headlamp I did not realize how steep that section is above the tent site. I opted to reclimb Crocker and return via AT I'd rather the steep descent than 2+ mile road walk. |
