The logging road from the designated parking to the beginning of the trail, about a mile in length, has been side-cut for most of the way. A sign at the parking area says that work on the road will begin once the area dries out from this summer's wet weather, presumably next summer. The road/trail is no longer closed to hiking mid-week, but presumably will be again next summer when they resume roadwork.
As others have noted, the trail is a stream in several spots and once on the ridge, the trail is quite grown in on the ridge. From the first open rock on the South side of the ridge, there is a herd path connecting rocky patches to the summit, but the trail is actually on the West side of the ridge. Looking at the footpath is helpful to stay on the trail in the most overgrown sections, especially on the return when you leave the ridge and begin the steep descent.
Much of the rock along the trail is slippery when wet, but the rock on the summit ridge is exceptionally slippery. It is comparable to walking on ice. |
