Comments
Comments: Wildfire smoke spoiled the views on this day unfortunately. Not a cloud in the sky, but thick haze limited visibility to just a few miles. Regardless, this is a beautiful trail. Long stretches of smooth pine needles & fine gravel surrounded by deep green moss. Such a nice contrast to the over trafficked and eroded trails of the Whites & ADKs. The Coe slide is no joke, do not recommend attempting that on a wet day, it could definitely be quite slick. Saw lots of others out today, including someone finishing their 115th peak on North Brother and another who was about 5 away from completing the NEHH. 66/115 for me. Car camped at the Wilderness Edge campground the night before, which was a great spot with easy access to the park, a general store, and a good restaurant just a few minutes away. Stayed at the AT Hostel following the hike, which was also great. Mingled with a good group of thru hikers who had just finished their thru. Apparently they got a ride the day before from the gentleman I chatted with who finished his 115! The hiking community can be a small world.
