Comments: On Tuesday, we hiked a small peak in the northern part of Baxter which I hadn't been up before, Trout Brook Mountain. There is a nice loop which can be made over the mountain, utilizing the Trout Brook Mountain and Five Ponds Trails. We did the loop counterclockwise, which seems like the better way to do it. It's a relatively gradual ascent, followed by a steep descent, then an easy flat walk out.

There are multiple viewpoints scattered across the mountain, both before and after the summit. The summit only has a limited view, far from the 360 degree view described in the MMG, and it looks like there hasn't been a view like that in 20+ years. The best viewpoints are a little past the summit, and are located on and near the trail on ledges which provide excellent views towards Traveler and the remote interior of Baxter State Park. We spent quite a bit of time at one of these viewpoints, and picked the abundant blueberries growing in the area. It's a beautiful mountain, and we only saw one other person on it during our hike.
