Peaks Pleasant Mountain, ME
Trails
Trails: Ledges Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, July 26, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Large parking lot, probably holds 15-20 cars. I was first one in at 7:30 AM on a Wednesday, 10 cars at 10:50 AM.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Zero, at this time. There are a few dry stream beds that probably carry water at other times.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in good shape and easy to follow. Lots of nice stone steps, also stepping stones in muddy sections. One step-over about 3/4 miles in, and one walk-under up above the ledges. Blue diamond blazes are widely spaced, but no problem finding the trail, at least this time of year.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few, seemed happy. Trail should be OK for most hiking dogs. Little if any water available on trail.
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitoes. I covered up and used DEET. Worked OK, except when I sweated the DEET off and needed to re-apply.

Comments
Comments: This is a good easy-to-moderate hike. There is a nice stretch of ledges partway up, with decent views. The open summit has great views, especially to the west. However, it was quite hazy today, probably a combination of high humidity and smoke from Canadian wildfires. Trail was in good shape and mostly dry, just a few muddy sections, easily avoidable.
