No more parking at the "used to be snowmachine parking lot.." WMG says to check in at the Evergreen Valley Inn..given permission to park at the upper left corner..first vehicle there, one other next upon return.. |

Cold Brook trail had a spot with two very large, step on blow downs; a short distance from those two, blow down with many branches, crawl though..on the way down it was taken care of.... |

Skeeters bad early, deer flies not too bad..insane bugs (hovering trying to get in eyes) were active later.. |

Traveling from Rt 2, took Rt 113 to Deer Hill Road which turns into FR 9..little over 6 miles from Rt 113 to Evergreen Valley Inn, road in good shape, some smaller rocks kicking up in spots..logging going on during the week most likely..had not been to Speckled this way in a few years..it pays to read the WMG, I would have been surprised to find the old parking area now blocked off!!saw a total of 3 hikers on EL, CB, none on Speckled summit..nice view day... |
