Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The guidebook’s directions were accurate and Pokey Rd is in excellent shape for any vehicle (motorcycles would probably even be fine on it). Roadside parking at the jct of Pokey Rd and the old fire tower road. Driving any further along the road (as the guidebook says you can do in dry conditions) should probably only be attempted with high clearance and 4WD.

Comments
Comments: Did a few smaller hikes on my way back from Houlton on Sunday. This was the first. The guidebook’s description was accurate except for the fact that it says the hike is 0.4mi one way but the description underneath indicates that it’s at least a 0.6mi hike. Make sure not to miss the left hand turn at 0.4mi onto the more obscure road. That said, note that continuing ahead to the “view” is technically needed as a redlining spur as it’s given with a distance. I took this on the way down and unfortunately there is no longer a view here.

Grades are mostly pretty nice on this short hike. Trails could be wet and such at times but not that muddy or anything at all compared to what I’ve seen recently. Note that the remnants of the old fire tower may be just a bit further ahead than you think they are. They were not in the first place I looked but to the left of a huge puddle currently. No view or anything much to see here other than the old concrete stanchions. Gaia had me at 1.3mi, just over 300ft of gain, and it took me 30min to complete.
