Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Long drive in. I followed the directions in the guidebook which were accurate. Roads to the trailhead are not shown on Gaia. I made a track of the drive in on Gaia for anyone interested. The roads in weren’t too bad. Easily doable in mid-clearance. Low clearance might struggle. I think 2WD should be okay. Parking for at least a few cars where the ATV track starts.

Comments
Comments: 2nd hike of the day after Coburn Mtn on my way from Strong ME to Houlton ME to stay several days. Note that the trail shown on Gaia that goes to the summit is not entirely the one described in the guidebook. The ATV track was incredibly muddy. Not very pleasant to walk on at all. It crosses a grassy road about a 1/2mi in. The trail shown on Gaia appears to this trail to the right but then it follows this main ATV track the rest of the way to the summit. On my way down, I started following this old road down but it was very grassy and just as wet and muddy as the main trail so quickly turned around and just returned down the same way along the ATV track. A very large puddle of standing water along the summit ridge to navigate too. No views from the summit unless you climb the tower…and that was one tower I was not comfortable climbing alone! It was a very long, angled, ladder. Kind of hard to describe. I haven’t seen any other fire towers like this. There’s a canister you can sign into in one corner of the structure as well. Gaia had me at 1.25mi, 350ft of gain, just under 1hr to complete.
