Mid sized road side parking area on Five Islands Rd. It would be easy enough to miss it. Little bit of a drop off from the paved road. I was the only car there when I arrived at 3:30pm. One other was arriving as I was leaving at 4:15pm. |

I don’t recall any blowdown’s. I believe both trails were blazed in a dull blue color. There’s many small cairns as well. There are some tricky turns that one could miss particularly on Lichen Loop. Many are blocked with some debris attempting to prevent you from continuing straight ahead and missing the turn. Signage was intact at the trail kiosk and at the jct of Billie Todd Loop and Lichen Loop trails. |

2nd and final hike of the day after North Trail on Mt Waldo in Frankfort as I drove back from a few days redlining around Old Town. This is a lovely, short hike. There’s ledge but it’s mostly flat up top and not too steep down low. Note that the main loop is signed at the trailhead as Billie Todd Loop not Higgins Mtn Trail as the guidebook says. Along the north-south summit ridge walk, a new trail, Lichen Loop, diverges west in two places to from another loop with its two ends 0.1mi apart along Billie Todd Loop. Lichen Trail is even flatter. I didn’t find that much in the way of views but I did find beautiful terrain :) In redlining both loops, Gaia had me at 1.25mi, 100ft of gain, 30min. |
